Located in the suburban community of Towson in Baltimore County, University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center has a rich history of providing loving service and compassionate care since its founding in 1864 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. Its Catholic heritage ever-present, the medical center today boasts a wide range of superb clinical programs and centers of excellence, including the Cancer, Heart and Orthopaedic Institutes, Women and Children’s services and Emergency Medicine.

U.S. News & World Report ranked UM St. Joseph as #3 in the state and Baltimore Metro area for the fourth consecutive year, and is once again the #1 community hospital in Maryland. UM St. Joseph is rated “high performing” in 12 in specific procedures.

UM St. Joseph was one of only 429 hospitals in the nation—and one of two in the state of Maryland—to earn five out of five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in its 2022 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings report. This is the fifth consecutive time receiving CMS's highest rating.

UM St. Joseph also earned an ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Spring 2023 - marking the eighth such accomplishment. This new grade reflects performance primarily during the height of the pandemic.
