FAQs about our premier hospitals

How does Kaiser Permanente select its premier hospitals?*

To qualify, each hospital has been carefully evaluated—and is regularly reassessed—for the quality of care, comfort, and services it provides. Staff at core hospitals share our commitment to your health and well-being. We work together for the best possible outcomes.

I’m pregnant. Where will I deliver my baby?

Your Permanente physicians will let you know which hospitals deliver babies. You will be given a list of hospitals to choose from. Once you choose a hospital, you will have the opportunity to meet physicians who practice at that hospital during your regular appointments.

Here are some of your choices:

My doctor said I could need surgery. Which hospital will I go to?

Your Permanente physician will let you know the best hospital for you to undergo surgery. We have several centers of excellence in the region, such as our orthopedic surgery center at Suburban Hospital.

Will I see a Permanente physician at the hospital?

Yes. In our premier hospitals, you can have peace of mind knowing you’re being cared for by Permanente physicians you can trust, who have your medical history immediately at hand. They care for you and coordinate that care with hospital staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Will my doctor have access to my medical record at the hospital?

Yes. At premier hospitals, Permanente hospitalists and specialty physicians have your Kaiser Permanente electronic medical record at their fingertips, including your medication history, lab results, allergies, doctors’ notes, and X-rays. They also update your medical record with the details of your hospital stay, so you won’t have to worry about transferring any records to other Permanente physicians after you leave the hospital.

What will happen when I am discharged from the hospital?

Whether you continue your care in a skilled nursing facility or need follow-up appointments with your Permanente primary care physician or specialist, your team will help ensure that the transition is as easy as possible.

In addition to your Permanente physicians at the hospital, a Permanente patient care coordinator will assist with your hospital stay and discharge. Once you are discharged, you can concentrate on your recovery while your Kaiser Permanente team eases your transition to follow-up care.

*Kaiser Permanente premier hospitals are independently owned and operated hospitals and are not affiliated entities of Kaiser Permanente.
